ICQ

ICQ is an instant messaging computer program, which was first developed and popularized by the Israeli company Mirabilis, then bought by America Online, and since April 2010 owned by Digital Sky Technologies (Russia). The name ICQ is a homophone for the phrase "I seek you". This is an adaptation of the Morse code callout "CQ", which means "calling any station".
The first version of the program was released in November 1996 and ICQ became the first Internet-wide instant messaging service, later patenting the technology.AOL acquired Mirabilis on June 8, 1998, for US$407 million.
In April 2010, AOL sold ICQ to Digital Sky Technologies for $187.5 million. According to Time Warner, ICQ has over 100 million accounts registered.

Features
  • ICQ features include sending text messages, offline support, multi-user chats, free daily-limited SMS sending, resumable file transfers, greeting cards, multiplayer games and a searchable user directory.
  • ICQ6 was launched on April 17, 2007, and offered a single communication platform that combines the various user options: instant messaging services, free SMS from ICQ to mobile, voice and video communication. The software's new sound gallery was orchestrated by the Israeli psychedelic trance duo Infected Mushroom. Among the new additional features in ICQ6 are Quick IM, which allows users to send a short message without opening a conversation window, a "follow me" service directly to the user’s mobile, a multi-chat service and Zlango support, the animated icons language.

Habitat of Snake

Diet

The diet of water snakes is principally composed of fish, but frogs, salamanders and frog tadpoles are also commonly found in stomachs of water snakes upon dissection. A study by King (1939)3 showed that 35% of a population of water snakes had tadpoles and salamanders in their stomachs, besides all other types of prey.

Hunting in water

Water snakes weaves around in shallow waters with its mouth open waiting for any prey to come close by - within a few inches - so it can close its jaws around the prey. It also moves around on the underwater surface looking for prey in rook crevices and other hiding places (Drummond, 1983)4. Water snakes are foraging both day and night.
They have a compound in their saliva inhibiting coagulation of blood. The advantage from having an anti-clotting compound in its saliva is that when prey escapes it will leave a trail of blood that the water snake can follow.

Life cycle

Water snakes mature when they are 2 to 3 years old. Mating takes place in the spring and snakes are born between August and October. Water snakes give birth to live snakes. The eggs hatch within the female body before the birth. Litters of about 20 snakes are common and the newborn snakes have a length of 8-12 inches on average.

Northern Water Snake

The Northern Water Snake (Nerodia sipedon) is found in many different types of freshwater habitats. It can be found near large rivers and small ponds as well. When conditions are good these snakes can be found in very high numbers. Its a relatively large snake with adult females reaching a length of almost 5 feet.
They can reach an age of approx. 7-8 years. Their litters have a size of anywhere from 10 to 40 snakes and new snakes are born during late summer and early fall. It is mainly feeding on fish and fish probably constitutes about 50% of its varied diet. Larger individuals also eat a lot of frogs while smaller individuals eat anything from invertebrates to small mammals.
Because of its vicious temperament the Northern Water Snake, as well as other Water Snakes, are not suitable for keeping as pets. As the Northern Water Snake is fairly common and share some similarities with the venomous cottonmouth snake, many are killed on the suspicion on being cottonmouths

Why is Recycling Important

The importance of recycling can be observed in multiple ways. If you are wondering in your mind as to "why I should recycle" then here are some causes which should convince you to do so.
  • Recycling Saves Energy
When new products are manufactured from the raw material obtained from recycled products, it saves a lot of energy which is consumed for the production. When new products are manufactured from ‘virgin materials’, the amount of energy consumed is much higher. Besides, the energy required to acquire and transport the ‘virgin’ raw materials from their origins or natural sources is also saved. Add to that the energy which is required to clean and protect the environment from the pollutant waste products, especially those which are non-biodegradable (plastic) and fill up the landfill areas.
  • Recycling Saves Environmental Conditions and Reduces Pollution
Recycling helps in preventing global climate change to a great extent. By minimizing the energy spent on industrial production, recycling also helps in reducing greenhouse gas emission. Some of the major fossil fuels used in most industries include coal, diesel, gasoline etc. All these emit harmful gases such as methane, sulfur dioxide, carbon-dioxide to the environment. The processing of fresh raw material also creates toxic materials which pollute the environment. By reducing the energy used, recycling also minimizes the amount of fuel usage which in turn reduces the amount of harmful pollutants in the environment.
  • Recycling Saves Natural Resources
We know that recycling involves the processing and usage of the core elements of an old product for the production of new products. This helps in saving our natural resources to a great extent. For example, once an old newspaper is recycled we do not need to use the resource of another tree to produce new paper products. This way, proper recycling can help us preserve our natural resources for our future generations and maintain the balance of the nature.
  • Economic Benefits
Similar to energy and natural resource, recycling also helps in saving a lot of expense, demanded for the production of new products from ‘virgin’ materials. These expenses include the entire production cycle starting from acquiring the raw materials, transferring them from their origin to production places, processing and manufacturing costs.
Recycling process creates employment opportunities for a lot of people, involved in the various stages of the process. This in turn contributes to the economic development of the state or country.
  • Recycling Saves Space for Waste Disposal
Most of the landfill sites are filled up with a lot of waste products that could have been recycled effectively. Some of these waste materials belong to non-biodegradable category which takes a long time to decompose. Recycling enables proper usage of these waste products and saves space for landfills. The pace with which landfills are getting filled up, soon we might run short of landfills unless we start following recycling at our own home and spread the word to others.

How To Maintain Your Health

Our health is the most important thing we can have, but often it gets overlooked and taken for granted. We don't see the damage we've been causing it until sometimes it is too late. And at that point, we start relying on man-made pharmaceutical products and/or unpleasant treatments to mitigate any more damage. What many people don't realize, however, is that we can avoid that scenario altogether just by making small changes to our lives. And lots of small changes will eventually add up to a big one. Here are some simple steps that you can take to increase your longevity by 14 years, according to a recent study in the on-line peer reviewed journal PLos Medicine:

Instructions

  1. Exercise. Most of us spend our workdays sitting or standing in one place. Combat your sedentary job with some movement. Walter Willett, MD of Harvard Medical School, said that doing something as simple as walking half an hour a day can have a dramatic impact on your health. Of course, the more you exercise the better.

  2. Drink moderately. The first is easy, but for some, moderation is not possible. If you consume more than a couple of drinks of alcohol a day, either cut back to one or two, or stop all together. However, if you can limit yourself to a single daily cocktail if you're a woman, two if you're a man. You'll help both your heart and mood. Drinking relaxes blood vessels. The best alcohol for longevity is red wine which contains the compound resveratrol. In tests at Harvard Medical School, the molecule increased the lifespan of every animal fed it, including human cells in vitro.

  3. Quit or don't start smoking. Taking one drag is almost like sucking on a tail pipe. Every puff is poison. Nicotine constricts blood vessels, so smokers who exercise hard are taking a big risk.

  4. Consume more fruits and vegetables. Americans only get half the recommended five servings a day of fruits and vegetable. The longevity in Okinawa, Japan rates among the highest of any city. It should be noted that the people there average seven servings daily.

  5. Get your annual check-ups. Yearly health and dental exams give your doctors a chance to catch problems before they become severe.
